The usual writerly reasons: Think of objects, animals, etc. Give it a new ending or make it modern or write as a poem. Therefore ask a reading friend or two to look at it before you give it to anyone in the publishing business.
How Not to Write a Novel: Your friends are already a captive audience. Write about a piece of jewelry. Write a poem about what you do when you are alone — do you feel lonely or do you enjoy your own company. Write about living in the present moment.

Write about someone you admire and you thought to have had a beautiful mind. Make sure your book meets our publishing and content guidelines. The police called it a suicide, but everyone knew better. This is likely to work better if you can hold your own.
Capture your feelings about this in your writing. Go Fly a Kite: Write a motivational poem or journal entry about positive traits that make you who you are.
Take that topic and write about it without any creative restraints whatsoever. Go people watching and write an ode to a stranger you see on the street.
Write about a time when you had to make a difficult choice. Write about something you learned the hard way. Imagine the scents and sights of a bakery and write. Rewrite it in your own words.
Howard Mittelmark wrote first and then edited business magazines. Write about finding a cure for an illness. Write about the possibility of life in outer-space. Now write a poem that sums up the entire story in 10 lines.

You are allowed no more than two or three perwords of prose. Write about feeling lost in the crowd. I've made so many mistakes, I want to try and save you time, money and heartache along the way and so I share articles, video and audio about writing and creativity, publishing options, book marketing and being a creative entrepreneur.
